This new collection of rugs by Patricia Urquiola is inspired by a simple, almost automatic movement: that of brushing. The name PINCEL is derived from the Spanish word for a brush, and indicates the continuous, fluid graphics that decorate the surface of the textile, almost as if applied by hand. The surface of these rugs is marked by lines that are never rigid, never clearly defined, but living, lightweight and suggestive of movement and depth. The rug becomes a canvas on which colour is distributed in a dynamic, organic manner, creating visual variations that change with light and perspective. Rather than presenting a decorative pattern in the traditional sense, the surface of PINCEL rugs symbolises a direct, spontaneous and expressive movement. PINCEL comes in various sizes to suit different contexts while preserving the power of its design and its ability to characterise space.
