Kartell is participating in a charity initiative, the brainchild of Davide Rampello and Massimo Bottura, to create and promote a soup kitchen in aid of those in need at Expo 2015.

The Refettorio Ambrosiano, a soup kitchen that will be set up in the former San Martino theatre in Milan’s Piazza Greco, will be decked out in Victoria Ghost chairs by Philippe Starck. A huge number of companies are getting involved in the initiative, alongside numerous designers and artists who have signed up to create furniture especially for this new space.

As part of the programme, the Galleria Visconti in Milan hosted an exhibition from 16 – 22 September of all of the elements that will go into furnishing the Refettorio Ambrosiano, together with details of the renovation project being managed by the Polytechnic University of Milan.

For one month, during Expo 2015, Massimo Bottura will be bringing together forty international chefs to cook up all of the surplus food produced by the expo’s caterers. This pairing of food with social responsibility goes hand in hand with the theme of the next “world’s fair”.
