“Mademoiselle à la mode!” is the installation that Kartell presented in Paris on 25 January for the 2007 Maison&Objet at the flagship on Boulevard St. Germain. Philippe Starck designed it for Kartell in 2004, perhaps while thinking of one of those female icons that have always remained throughout history. Mademoiselle, a theatre chair with a female identity which, like a woman, loves to choose among her own wardrobe, perhaps disposing of several dresses for various needs….“Mademoiselle à la mode!” consists of “staging” various personal interpretations, a play of seduction applied to a theatre chair that has become an eccentric divertissement. Philippe Starck, the “legal” author of the chair, first thought of reupholstering it in sophisticated crocodile skin; 7 fashion labels followed (Burberry, Dolce&Gabbana, Etro, Missoni Home, Moschino, Trussardi, Valentino,) once again presenting the select affinities between fashion and design.
